Columbia Gorge Hustlers head coach Steve Sugg put his ‘A’ baseball team through a meat grinder of a schedule, with games in Washington, on the coast and everywhere else. This summer, the Hustlers racked up a 29-17 overall record, a Zone 2 championship and a 1-2 finish at the recently-completed American Legion State Tournament in North Bend.

NEWPORT – The Columbia Gorge Hustlers wrapped up baseball action at the Newport Tournament with a 1-3 record and posted double-figure hits in every game and totaled 30 runs, finishing the weekend with a 15-8 loss on Sunday to Lower Columbia Basin. Head coach Steve Sugg liked the way the offense executed in the four games, but looked to the defense and pitching as key components to the team’s success at the upcoming American Legion Tournament this week in Coos Bay.
The Columbia Gorge Hustlers lost the first two games at the Seaside Wood Bat Tournament to Seaside and Hood River by a combined 18-8 spread, but bounced back for a lopsided win against Madison and added a two-game sweep over league opponent, St. Helens, Sunday.
