Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 8, schools in Wasco and Sherman counties reported 19 cases of COVID-19. School-based cases can be reported among students, staff or volunteers. None were due to transmission in the school setting, according to a press release from North Central Public Health District (NCPHD).
Christmas came a little early Friday at Chenowith Elementary in The Dalles as local car dealership Tonkin of The Gorge arrived to provide some early holiday cheer with each student receiving a set of Y-ties—curly, elastic, no-tie shoelaces—along with other holiday treats.
Students at Chenowith Elementary will present “Seussical the Musical, Kid,” Friday, Feb. 28, 6:30 p.m. at the school cafeteria and Sunday, March 3, 2 p.m. Tickets are $4.
The 18th annual Jumpstart Elementary Cross Country races are fast approaching and more than 400 boys and girls from kindergarten-through-fifth grade are expected to join in on the fun, starting at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Sorosis Park. Harriers from the Columbia Gorge, Wasco, Hood River and Sherman Counties are encouraged to run.
In the next five years, $22.4 million needs to be spent just to keep systems at the six District 21 buildings in their current poor condition, according to an assessment of the buildings.
