FREE NEWS: Continuing a tradition of a Christmas play to kick-off the holiday season, Serious Theater is presenting a readers theater production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
Gary Young, who portrays Ebenezer Scrooge in the new production of Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol,” sat for an interview Nov. 27 in his Heights home, after polishing off a bowl of his own homemade soup. He spoke with editor Kirby Neumann-Rea, who has the role of Mr. Fezziwig in the production, by Plays For Non-Profits.
“You are about to show me shadows of the things that have not happened, but will happen in the time before us. Is that so, spirit?” Scrooge’s longest night receives a fresh take starting Dec. 2 from the large cast of “A Christmas Carol,” directed by Lynda Dallman, on stage at Wy’east Middle School.
I’m excited to see the activities happening at the library this week, I really am. Without having attended anything yet (I’m writing this 5 hours before any of them start), I just have this feeling that this celebration of Charles Dickens is exactly what libraries are supposed to do. Although I’m sad that I can’t go to the ball on Saturday, I’m committing myself to most of, if not all, of the other events.
Charles Dickens and Christmas are forever linked in our minds. Ebenezer Scrooge stomping down the snowy streets of London biting the head off anyone who dared to wish him season’s cheer. The Ghost of Christmas Future looming before him in his bedroom, darker than the night. Tiny Tim.
