The South Wasco County volleyball team won 25 matches, claimed two tournaments, lost only one match from Sept. 9 until the state tournament, won a district championship and scored a sixth-place trophy at the 1A state tourney in Redmond.

Under the bright lights of the 1A volleyball scene, the South Wasco County Redsides scratched and clawed their way to a close four-set loss to No. 2-seeded Country Christian in opening-round state action Friday afternoon in Redmond.

MORO – After a 20-win campaign and a No. 2 seed at last season’s Big Sky Conference, the short-handed Lady Redsides were dispatched from postseason contention with back-to-back sweep losses. Saturday in Moro, No. 8-ranked South Wasco County was singing a redemption song following sweeps of Sherman and Dufur on its way to its first-ever volleyball district championship.

MAUPIN – The South Wasco County Redsides wrapped up its 2017 regular season schedule with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 three-set sweep over Monument-Dayville in a non-league volleyball match played Saturday in Maupin.

Jacqueline Noland and Jada Myers were each a perfect 12 of 12 on serves, and the duo combined for 13 kills on 23 of 27 swings in No. 5 South Wasco County’s 25-17, 25-10, 25-12 three-set sweep over Ione Tuesday in Maupin. The sweep was the team’s fifth of the season.

The South Wasco County volleyball team split its last four matches, losing two straight to 2A Heppner and 3A Irrigon, Tuesday in a non-league double dual played at Heppner High School.

Before its final test of the regular season on Feb. 14 in Culver, The South Wasco County Middle School ‘A’ girls’ basketball team last logged an official practice on Jan. 31. Having an extended break from action did not deter this group from completing a perfect season, as the Lady Redsides stormed past the Bulldogs by a 47-36 margin to complete a perfect 9-0 hoops campaign.

Allie Noland was a first-team pick, Jacqueline earned second-team status and the sophomore duo of Kyrsten Sprouse and Jada Myers were honorable mention selections to the Big Sky Conference all-league team.
