HOOD RIVER — This summer, former State Representative for House District 52 (HD 52) Anna Williams made the tough decision not to return to the Oregon State legislature. Mostly working from home as the new executive director for the Oregon System of Care Advisory Council, Williams can finally exhale, free from the unpredictability of the state legislature.

SALEM — A bill passed by the Oregon legislature that would dedicate a highway in honor of Oregon Japanese American World War II veterans was signed by Gov. Kate Brown in March. With Brown’s signature on Senate Bill 1509, State Highway 35 will be dedicated on Aug. 13 as the Oregon Nisei Veterans World War II Memorial Highway.

SafeSpace Child Advocacy Center awarded $2M

The State of Oregon has voted to invest $2 million in a new permanent facility for SafeSpace Child Advocacy Center of the Columbia Gorge. The investment is among the projects approved for funding with the passage of HB-5202 by Oregon’s House and Senate at the end of the short 2022 Legislative Session. The investment represents a big leap forward for SafeSpace’s capital campaign to create a permanent facility supporting children who are victims of abuse, neglect or maltreatment.
