The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team participated in its final Intermountain Conference Tournament May 10 at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River and took third place in the three-team event.
In his career, Tyler Vassar tallied eight medalist titles, had two top-10 state finishes, and as a sophomore, he played a big part in helping The Dalles boys golf team to its best state outcome in program history, second place. All of those positive memories will be his driving force at the collegiate level.

With two tournaments left in the regular season, The Dalles golfer Rainie Codding is right on the edge, points-wise, but needs a final charge to rank within the individual top-4 of the combined 14-team Intermountain and Northwest Oregon Conferences. Across 18 holes, Codding posted four pars and one birdie and carded a personal-record 92 for second-place honors at Monday’s Crook County Invitational, held at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville.
Rainie Codding and the cousin duo of Bella and Lydia Evans shot their tournament personal records and The Dalles girls golf squad combined for a season-best 425 to finish in seventh place at Friday’s Eagle Crest Invitational in Redmond.
Last year, The Dalles girls golf team combined for a 521 to place sixth at the Riverhawk Invitational, but then cut 62 strokes off their scores by dropping to a 459 in opening-round play at the Class 5A Special District 2 Tournament in May. One event into the season and they have already shattered that mark.
As the season wore on, The Dalles girls’ golf team remained diligent in using extra practice time and participation on challenging courses to improve every aspect of their game. Sunday and Monday, the Lady Riverhawks were on Sunriver’s Woodlands Course and posted a two-day total of 931 for 10th place at the Class 5A Special District 2 girls golf championships.
With each passing tournament, The Dalles head coach Amy Wilson continues to be amazed. The Lady Riverhawks had two personal bests from Lydia and Bella Evans, Samantha Stansbury posted her best tournament score, and Jaeden Biehn was two strokes behind her top marks, as they combined for a team-best 475 at Monday’s Mountain View Invite at Awbrey Glen Golf Club in Bend.
When Eliana Ortega is on her game, The Dalles girls’ golf team has the ability to put forth a collaborative effort to compete in every tournament. Ortega paced the Riverhawks with her season-best scorecard of the spring with a 118, as she shot a 56 on the front-nine and added a 62 on the final half for her solid totals in tournament action Thursday at Pendleton Country Club.
Jaeden Biehn was The Dalles’ team medalist with a 126 and her teammates, Samantha Stansbury, Lydia Evans and Eliana Ortega, all came in with 127s to give the Lady Riverhawks fifth place out of seven teams with their 507 at the Wildhorse Invitational in Pendleton.
