To the editor:

I recently read about the review of the Public Works Department and wanted to write about my experiences with it since I moved to The Dalles last year, both positive. In one case there was a dead animal on the street in front of my house. I called and it was removed within a few hours. In another case I called about a street light being out. I like to walk around the neighborhood for errands and in the winter when it gets dark early, these lights are very important. The next time I checked, a few days later, it was fixed. I think both of these response times are more than adequate and appreciate the attention the Public Works Department gives to citizen requests since they probably have plenty of much larger tasks that fill their time.
