Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Santo “Sandy” Antonio Regalbuto passed away on Jan. 7, 2019, at the age of 93. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, during the Great Depression in a rough Italian neighborhood, the second to youngest of eight children.
He joined the Navy and served in World War II, and after his military service, graduated from Kent State University on the GI Bill.
He met Jane Williams at a dance, and they were happily married for over 65 years and had two sons, Gary and Brian.
Sandy was a man of many interests and talents. He began his career as a teacher in Cleveland, teaching at some of the same schools he attended as a boy, and then became an industrial engineer and management consultant after moving his family to Ontario, Calif.
He and Jane loved dancing and music, and Sandy played saxophone, percussion and harmonica with many bands. He also enjoyed flying airplanes and volunteered as a pilot in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
After retirement, he and Jane spent 20 summers in Hood River, where they were involved with the community and made many friends. At the age of 90, Sandy moved to Hood River full-time and lived at Providence Down Manor. He brought joy to many by starting a “Harmonichoir” at Down Manor and was a regular attendee at local senior dances. He had a kind spirit, was full of fun and will be greatly missed. Sandy is survived by his son, Gary Regalbuto, of Hood River; son, Brian Regalbuto, daughter-in-law, DeAnna Regalbuto, and granddaughter, Alanna Regalbuto of Downey, Calif.; granddaughter, Shannon Regalbuto, of Reno, Nev.; granddaughter, Kate Getchis, and great-grandchildren Waylon and Xiaohua Getchis of Hood River; granddaughter, Colleen Regalbuto, and great-grandchildren, Gianna and Anthony Clark, of White Salmon, Wash.
There will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, feel free to buy a harmonica for a child!
