Katsumi Sato passed away March 12, 2011. He was born in Hood River, Ore., on July 7, 1920, to Shiroye and Oriyo Sato.
He attended schools in Dee and Hood River. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 through 1946, taking MIS language training at Fort Snelling, and serving in the Philippines and the Japanese occupation.
For most of his life, he was an orchardist in Dee, Ore., until he sold his ranch in March 2010. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and hunting mushrooms in his favorite spots.
He is survived by sisters Yoshiye Tsuboi and Setsuko Malora, brothers Victor and Ben Sato, and nieces Terri Togiai, Leslie Yasui, Denise Stone, Suzie and Lynne Sato, and nephews Roland Kato and Elliott Sakamoto.
Private interment was at Idlewilde Cemetery.
