Mildred “Lucille” Ingram Dowler Bosch, 92, of Parkdale, Ore., died April 26, 2014, of natural causes, at the home of her daughter, Carol Arnold, of Parkdale, Ore. Lucille, as she was known, was born in Portland, Ore., on July 5, 1921, to Harold Preston Ingram of White Salmon, Wash., and to Mildred Overbaughm, also of White Salmon.
Her parents moved to many locations throughout the Portland area, putting her and her brother and sister into different schools growing up. However, her father saw that the Depression was coming so he sold their Portland home, bought a new car, a horse, and a cow, and moved to a farm in the small rural town of Yankton, Ore., just outside of St. Helens, Ore.
Lucille graduated from St. Helens High School, where she met and married Leroy Eugene Dowler. After the war her husband served in, they set up house in Silverton, Ore., here their two children were raised: a son, Harold Curtis Dowler, and a daughter, Carol Jean.
They divorced after 25 years of marriage; Lucille went to work in Salem, Ore., for the Statesman newspaper in 1965. She then met and married Heinz Bosch of Beaverton, Ore. Lucille and her elderly mother then moved in together in the small town of Wamic. She loved it there and she was able to care for her mother until her death at the age of 96.
Still another move, due to health issues, brought Lucille to Hood River, Ore., where she lived at Down Manor for a number of years. She made and kept many friends after she moved from there, and commented on how much she loved it there.
Lucille moved into her daughter’s home in Parkdale, Ore., in May 2012, where she was loved and cared for until her death.
Lucille had many gifts and talents she gave and shared with others. She was a talented musician and played the accordion, piano, and harmonica. She was a part of a band in high school called the “Yankton Hillbillies,” playing for dances and local events in that area.
She was also crowned state rodeo queen from St. Helens, riding a horse in parades and having lunch with then-Governor Spaige.
She loved her grandkids very much, and she babysat with them whenever needed. People loved her, too. She drew folks to her with her joking personality. She loved to play games and you could not escape her house without a rousting game of “Skipbo.”
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Carol Jean Arnold, and her son-in-law, Larry L. Arnold, of Parkdale, Ore.; three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
Her ashes will be placed in the family plot at the Odd Fellows Cemetery of White Salmon, Wash.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in Lucille’s name to Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
