Mark DeMoss, CFO, Hood River County School District
HOOD RIVER — The Hood River County School District (HRCSD) has hired Mark DeMoss as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
DeMoss brings a wealth of experience in financial and operations leadership, underscoring his dynamic capabilities in managing large-scale projects and optimizing organizational processes.
With a career spanning manufacturing, construction project management and higher education, DeMoss is a seasoned professional in business planning, annual budgeting and financial analysis. His expertise extends to auditing, compliance, team training and development. Throughout his career, DeMoss has demonstrated his ability to enhance organizational efficiency and lead successful business initiatives, instilling confidence in his new role as CFO at HRCSD.
DeMoss holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Colorado State University (2023) and a Bachelor of Science in materials science and engineering from Rice University (1995). He is pursuing a master’s degree in professional accounting at Colorado State University, with an anticipated completion date in 2025.
Before joining HRCSD, DeMoss served as the interim CFO at Columbia Gorge Community College, where he also held roles as controller and grant accounting coordinator. During his tenure, he managed accounting processes for significant annual revenue volumes, developed multi-year financial forecasting tools, coordinated major capital projects and implemented compliance and reporting procedures for federal and state grants. His efforts led to a substantial increase in grant funds and the successful implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environment, setting a promising precedent for his future contributions at HRCSD.
“Having spent decades in construction and contracting, I was fortunate to be afforded the opportunity to begin a new career in education,” said DeMoss. “Being able to do what you love is important in life, but being able to do it while helping to shape the lives of future generations brings passion and joy even to a world of numbers. I am looking forward to my future with HRCSD.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Mark Demoss to our leadership team,” said Superintendent Bill Newton. “His extensive financial management and operational leadership background and his proven ability to drive organizational efficiency make him an excellent fit for our school district. We look forward to his contributions as we strive for excellence in our financial operations.”
HRCSD would also like to thank Nancy Hall, the interim CFO since October 2023.
“Nancy’s dedication and support over the past nine months have been invaluable to the school district,” said Superintendent Newton. “We are deeply appreciative of her service.”
