HOOD RIVER — One of the newest oil change businesses in Hood River, Hoody’s Oil Change, is bringing their experience changing oil on cars of all shapes and sizes. New owners Jacobe and Emily Krizman bought the Hood River Quick Lube from previous owners Felipe and Kara Castaneda in December. The Krizmans have three children who will occasionally help clean and organize the shop after closing: Landon, age 13; Emmett, 12; and Jadeyn, 9.
Jacobe has been changing oil since 2006 when he moved to Ashland, Oregon. One year later, the family moved to Eureka, California, and Jacobe managed a shop called Premier Oil Change until 2015. They relocated to Redding, California, where Jacobe was promoted to district manager of Premier Oil Change. Recently, they moved back to Hood River and pursued their own business.
“We have always wanted to be able to move our family back to Hood River, where we both grew up, so when this opportunity presented itself, we were really excited,” Emily said.
Jacobe has 20 years of experience in the oil change and car wash industry.
He is an AOCA (Automotive Oil Change Association) certified technician and meets with other oil change operators two or three times a year to discuss new vehicles and the processes necessary to maintain those vehicles. He also has served as a spokesman for Preventative Automotive Maintenance Association (PAMA) and Hot Topics for Vehicles at The Oil Change & Car Wash Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Nashville, Tennessee. Many companies across the U.S. have worked with Jacobe to train their managers and employees.
On top of being a full-time mom and social media influencer, Emily does a lot of work behind the scenes such as advertising, fleets and payroll. She has amassed over 19,000 followers on Instagram by sharing content of her family and promoting locally-made products.
Emily said they have made a few minor changes to the shop with more permanent changes coming soon. Nate Clark and his painting company updated the exterior of the building with a neon green color.
Once you are inside the shop, Jacobe and his technicians get right to work offering preventative maintenance on your vehicle. This includes fluid exchanges, along with filter, belt, light and windshield wiper replacements.
Hoody’s also offers free top offs during and in between services, and while you wait they have free wifi and complimentary beverage options. For the younger ones, they provide crayons and coloring books.
If you’re interested in checking out the new business, Emily and Jacobe said you can stop by anytime. No appointment is necessary, and they accept clients on a first come, first served basis.
Hoody’s Oil Change is currently open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on major holidays. Emily explained that they will do a grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce. They plan to be open on Saturdays in the spring.
Above offering quick and effective oil change services, Hoody’s strives to operate with honesty and integrity.
“We believe that maintaining people’s vehicles will ensure they are safe on the road,” Jacobe said.
