1. What do you see as the greatest need/priority going forward?
Adequate funding for county services has to be our priority. The current Public Safety levy expires in June 2025, and we will be working to renew those funds.
2. When you are re-elected to office, what projects will you work to continue?
The board of commissioners is currently engaged in setting boundaries around the unincorporated communities of Parkdale and Odell in order to facilitate well-planned future growth. We will continue to work through the process. The January weather emergency highlighted the need for several facilities improvements which will take funding and thoughtful planning. Wildfire preparedness will also continue to be on our agenda.
3. What do you see as the county’s greatest challenge going forward and how will
you address it?
In the short run our greatest challenge is ensuring Public Safety funds through a levy or possibly other means. In the long run our county will continue to face the challenges that growth and popularity bring. We will need to work on all the available options for increasing affordable workforce housing while maintaining the quality of life of our residents.
4. What inspired you to run again for a position with Hood River County?
During my first year in office the board has met several important goals. Through an extensive selection process and were able to hire an experienced, creative and thoughtful county administrator. I look forward to working towards the goals stated above, with Allison Williams and with a board of commissioners who hold unique points of view and represent a variety of backgrounds, yet have open minds and care deeply about our county’s well being.
5. How can the county continue to serve a residents and vice versa?
The Hood River County Board or commissioners is committed to open, responsive, transparent and fiscally responsible government. Continued funding of Public Safety will require the support of county residents.
