‘Today’: Sheinelle Jones Shares Health Update After Missing Show

Clarifying her injury, Jones told viewers, “I’ve self-diagnosed myself, so I don’t know if this is the official diagnosis, but ‘frozen shoulder.’”

The condition is something Bush Hager said she’s experienced before, but not to the same extent as Jones. “I don’t think mine is as bad as yours, because mine just felt irritated, but I could move it,” she said.

Jones told viewers that she began experiencing shoulder pain yesterday, and it was “excruciating” by the time she went to bed. “I don’t take a lot of medicine, so for me to take an Advil, it’s ‘cause I’m really hurting,” she noted.

Jones went on to demonstrate how she could not lift her right arm above her chest without feeling pain. “Putting this dress on today, Sarah had to help me upstairs, our friend in the wardrobe department,” she stated. “I stood still. I mean, it was a whole situation to put this dress on today.”

According to Bush Hager, having “frozen shoulder” is a sign of perimenopause. “I didn’t know why we have so many perimenopausal signs,” she said to Jones. “I once was like, ‘My shoulder’s been bothering me.’ And they were like, ‘You know what that is, right?’ And I was like, ‘Weight-lifting?’ And they were like, ‘No.’ I’m like, ‘What?’”

Per the Mayo Clinic, “Perimenopause is the time before menopause when your body is getting ready to stop having periods. Perimenopause is sometimes called the menopausal transition.”

While perimenopause is likely the reason behind Jones’ shoulder pain, Bush Hager joked that it also could have been caused by Jones’ performance with Zara Larsson on Today. Jones joined the pop star on stage during her May 8 Today concert to do the viral “Lush Life” dance.

“Did I whip my arm out of socket?” Jones questioned, while Bush Hager quipped, “I think she broke her shoe, and you broke your shoulder. It’s just, we’re old.” (Larsson broke her heel before breaking into the dance with Jones.)

Jones noted that her shoulder pain marks the “third time in six years” it has happened, the last being right before she got to dance on stage with Janet Jackson during one of her concerts in 2023. “I ended up getting a cortisone shot back there so I could dance,” she recalled.

Later in the episode, actress Mandy Moore revealed that she experienced her own signs of perimenopause after forgetting to pack underwear, socks, and her ID during a recent trip to New York. “I was like, ‘Is this perimenopause already?’” she stated

Bush Hager joked, “All roads lead to perimenopause, I hate to tell you. … Brain fog? Perimenopause. Leaving your socks and your underwear at home? Perimenopause.”
