The first responders of One Chicago will still have the doctors and nurses of Chicago Med around to come to their aid in the 2025-2026 season. The medical drama is returning for its 11th season, and there’s quite a bit that needs to be resolved when it does.
Fortunately, we now have a return date, and we also know some of the plans in place for the new season. Read on for everything we know so far about the newest (but still 10 seasons in!) show in the hit franchise.
When will Chicago Med Season 11 premiere?
Chicago Med kicks off its new season on Wednesday, October 1, at 8/7c on NBC.
Is anyone leaving Chicago Med after Season 10?
In a shocking bit of news, series original Marlyne Barrett (as Maggie Lockwood) has stepped away from the show for personal reasons. Her news follows other One Chicago exits on Fire (Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett are leaving after Season 13).
Chicago Med Season 10 starred Jessy Schram (as Dr. Hannah Asher), Steven Weber (as Dr. Dean Archer), Luke Mitchell (as Dr. Mitch Ripley), Sarah Ramos (as Dr. Caitlin Lennox), Darren Barnet (as Dr. John Frost), S. Epatha Merkerson (as Sharon Goodwin), and Oliver Platt (as Dr. Daniel Charles). We’ll have to wait to see if anyone else doesn’t return. Showrunner Allen MacDonald told TV Insider after the finale, he couldn’t answer if everyone would be back in the same capacity.
Joining the season are Nick Gehlfuss, reprising his former role as Dr. Will Halstead, and Cassius Hatosy, son of The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy.
How did Chicago Med Season 10 end?
The big question at the end of the finale was who’s the father of Hanna’s baby? She and Ripley were together, but had broken up, and it was Archer she went to see. Ripley also had a visit to his door, from Sadie, the woman he’d rescued from a well earlier in the season.
Elsewhere in the Season 10 finale, the hospital had to make cuts and the subsequent conversation led to the end of Goodwin and Washington’s (John Earl Jelks) relationship (she was still hurt he hadn’t told his daughter about them) and his resignation. Plus, Lenox learned (and kept from everyone) that she tested positive for prion disease.
What will happen in Chicago Med Season 11?
One of the first orders of business has to be revealing the father of Hannah’s baby, as well as what that means for everyone connected to that storyline.
Showrunner Allen MacDonald was very vague when it came to answering questions about that when TV Insider spoke with him about the finale, but he did reveal to us his plans to bring back original characters. “I think that in the One Chicago world, it’s completely legitimate to check in on people, characters that we love and we miss, and what fun to see them interact with the new doctors that the audience knows, but they don’t,” he said. “And so yes, I intend to at least bring back one if not two or more original cast members [from the series premiere] in the next season.”
Of Season 11, he also teased that Lenox’s diagnosis “is going to have a profound effect on how she chooses to live her life.” He added, “I want to continue exploring the relationship between Anna [Hannah Alligood] and Charles. I can say Lenox is going to go down a different path next season that will be surprising and possibly even cathartic for her and the audience. And I can say that when it is finally revealed who the father of Hannah’s baby is, those two are going to have to really work it out how they’re going to move forward.”
