Best Medicine, just a handful of episodes in, became a hit for Fox. And so it was no surprise that the cozy dramedy, an adaptation of the British hit Doc Martin, was renewed for Season 2 in March.
When Fox announced its 2026-2027 schedule on May 11, Best Medicine was on it for the fall. Furthermore, Season 2 will be 14 episodes.
“Best Medicine did so well for us this season. It’s a huge priority to return our sophomore shows as significantly as possible, and getting Best Medicine back on the air in the fall with Doc again on Tuesday nights to us felt like a really powerful move, both for the night as a network, but also in the best interest of Best Medicine as a potentially long-running show for us,” Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network, explained to reporters.

Yes, Fox renewed the dramedy on March 2.
This news wasn’t too surprising, given that it’s doing well for the network. The series premiere was watched by 12.6 million total Multiplatform viewers, and it’s among broadcast’s Top 2 highest-rated drama debuts this season among Adults 18-49, alongside the Fox’s other new series Memory of a Killer.
“Best Medicine quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart,” said Thorn, in a statement. “Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propogate, are excited to build on that momentum in Season 2.”
The series premiered as part of Fox’s midseason lineup, but it’s moving to the fall for Season 2. That would put a premiere date in late September or early October.
The series, based on Doc Martin, follows Josh Charles‘ Dr. Martin Best when he moves from Boston to Port Wenn, where he spent his summers as a child, and becomes its general practitioner. His attitude rubs the locals the wrong way, but they’ll all soon realize that they need each other. And while Martin can diagnose any medical mystery, he’d much rather be left alone, though he is dragged into the town’s business and events. He’s also hiding a debilitating blood phobia, one that makes his job that much harder.
Best Medicine stars Josh Charles as Dr. Martin Best, Abigail Spencer as schoolteacher Louisa Gavin, Josh Segarra as Sheriff Mark Mylow, Annie Potts as Martin’s aunt Sarah, and Cree as Martin’s assistant Elaine Denton.
Recurring guest stars include Didi Conn as councilwoman Geneva Potter, Clea Lewis as pharmacist Sally Mylow, Stephen Spinella and Jason Veasey as the happily married proprietors of The Salty Breeze, Greg Garrison and George Brady, Cindy De La Cruz as schoolteacher Jeannie, John DiMaggio as handyman Bert Large, Carter Shimp as Bert’s son Al Large, and Wattson as Copernicus, the dog that won’t leave Martin alone. Plus, the original Doc Martin himself, Martin Clunes, makes a special guest appearances as Martin’s father, Dr. Robert Best.
