THE DALLES — The Dalles won the varsity girls cross country race at the 18-team Estacada Invitational on Oct. 16 at McIver State Park.
The afternoon meet was an unofficial preview of the upcoming Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference district meet, which also will be held at McIver on Oct. 30. All six TVC teams competed at last week’s invitational.
The Dalles’ girls squad won with 97 points over 6A South Salem (105). Crook County was the second TVC finishing team in sixth place. The Dalles also won the junior varsity girls race.
Five of the seven varsity runners for the Riverhawks posted personal bests on the fast McIver course. Alaina Casady, who was locked in a competitive four-person TVC individual dual, led The Dalles by finishing third overall. Emily Picard of Madras won the 5,000-meter race in 18 minutes, 56 seconds; Annalyse Jenson of Molalla was second in 18:58.56; Casady was third in 18:58.59; and Anika Jenson of Molalla was fourth in 18:59.
Casady and her The Dalles teammates were coming off three days of recovery after competing at — and winning — the Oct. 12 Paul Mariman Invitational in Philomath. Casady, who has a personal best of 18:53 set Sept. 21 at the Northwest Classic, won the girls varsity race at the Paul Mariman.
