HOOD RIVER — A missing wedding ring has been reunited with its owner after an outpouring of community sleuthing on social media.
On Aug. 16, Debbi Trumbull commented on Columbia Gorge News’ Facebook page:
“The granddaughter got in touch with the employee yesterday and the ring will be returned to her. Happy ending!” she wrote, responding to a link to the original story.
The saga began when former River Daze Café employee Ava Gonzales posted to the Hood River Happenings Facebook page in July with a post titled “Missing wedding ring!!” that included a photo of the ring and details about its appearance. Community members began piecing together clues in the comments, including Trumbull.
“The employee that works at River Daze is the daughter of friends of ours. I was helping Ava help find the owners,” Trumbull told Columbia Gorge News.
She explained that another commenter discovered an obituary connected to Lewiston, Idaho. Trumbull then contacted a funeral home there to verify the lead.
“I called the funeral home in Lewiston and spoke with the funeral director there,” she said. “I told him [the funeral director] the name of the deceased and the date he passed away. And asked that he reach out to next of kin and let them know that the gold wedding band had been found in Hood River.”
Her efforts, along with the community response, led to the ring’s return.
“It’s finally been reunited with the owner and it’s in the mail going to the owner,” River Daze Café manager McKenna Robert said.
