The Dalles High girls and the Hood River Valley boys won district cross country championships on Oct. 25 at their conference meets.
The Dalles won the Tri-Valley Conference district title at McIver Park near Estacada. The Riverhawks, led by the girls individual winner, Alaina Casady, scored 43 points, to 47 for runner-up Crook County. Casady won the 5,000-meter race in 19 minutes, 21 seconds.Â
The Dalles boys, led by individual winner Tyson Long, finished second to Crook County in the boys race. Long edged Crook Country senior Gavin Humphreys, 16:41.0 to 16:41.9.
The Hood River boys won the Northwest Oregon Conference district title at Champoeg State Park. The Eagles scored 47 points to beat runner-up Wilsonville (66). HRV was led by the second- and third-place finishes by Logan King and Kai Wagner.Â
The Hood River Valley girls team finished third in the NWOC meet, in one of the closest team races in league history. Wilsonville won with 55 points, La Salle Prep was second with 56, and HRV third with 59. Hood River was led by sophomore Syl Perrin, who was fourth overall.
The Dalles boys and girls teams, and the Hood River boys team earned automatic berths in the Nov. 4 OSAA state meet at Lane Community College in Eugene. The Hood River girls will know later this week if they also secured a state meet berth (one of three wild card berths available to Class 5A teams).
