THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team opened their Class 4A season last week by competing in two tournaments. The Riverhawks will compete in their next event on April 4.
The Riverhawks played in their first event in the five-team Hood River Valley Eagles Invitational March 17 at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River. Hood River took first place with a team score of 341, and The Dalles was fourth at 458.
The Dalles was led by senior Gabriel Hoff, who shot 105. Senior Leighton Voodre shot 110, Aidan Flores shot 120, junior Andrew Westin shot 123, and sophomore Harley Beaver shot 120.
The Riverhawks competed in their second event, the March 21, 10-team The Dalles Invitational at The Dalles Country Club. The Riverhawks had a much-improved performance with a score of 404 to take sixth place. The Madras High White Buffaloes won the tourney with a score of 348.
The Dalles was led by Westin and Voodre, who each shot 93 to tie for 12th place out of 51 golfers. Xanh Quang of the Seaside High Seagulls earned medalist honors with an 82. Hoff shot a 98, followed by Beaver (120) and sophomore Brenden Manciu (132) to round out the Riverhawks’ five-member team score.
The Dufur High Rangers’ duo of seniors Klayton Schanno (99) and Hunter Woods also competed in the tournament.
