Campsites added at Kingsley Reservoir

Contractor Douglas Johnson, at right, has been hired to build fencing for Kingsley Reservoir near Hood River. Johnson said he is frustrated with the lack of patience from the public. “People have been sneaking in and riding their motorized vehicles and ATVs,” said Johnson. “I just hope there won’t be as much lawlessness when it opens in August.”

Workers move rock out of the way during one of the last projects to complete before its opening in August. The temporary piping must be removed and replaced with a bridge that will connect the staging and day use area to the newly raised dam. Kingsley Reservoir has faced many setbacks during the nearly five year expansion project. According to Hood River County Forest Manager Doug Thiesies the popular recreation area has a tentative opening date of Aug. 1.

New campsites have been created on the southwest end of Kingsley Reservoir in Hood River. Most sites will not have electric or water hookups available when they open in August.
