HOOD RIVER — Natalia Solorio and Kyra Mitchell each placed fifth to highlight the finishes by the Hood River Valley (HRV) girls wrestling team at the 2025 state wrestling tournament.
Solorio (37-10) won three of her five 190 pound matches at the tournament Feb. 28 and March 1 at Portland’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum. She won her first two matches by fall over Dennece LaMothe of South Salem in the first round and Jocelyn Morales of Beaverton in the quarterfinals.
The runner-up at 190, Izabella Castlebery of Thurston, would edge Solorio, 8-4, in the semifinals. The HRV wrestler then lost by fall in the consolation semifinals to eventual fourth-place finisher Sophia Zuniga of West Salem before rebounding to pin Dennece LaMothe again in the first round of their fifth-place match. Mitchell (38-14 this season) had a slower start at 130 pounds, losing by fall to Amerie Medina of Hillsboro in the opening round. But Mitchell then won four of her five remaining matches en route to fifth place. Her consolation wins came against Sayler Graham of Silverton by fall, Syriana Bird of Corvallis by fall, Cadence Fineran of McNary by fall, and Isabella Quesada of Canby by a 17-15 decision. The win over Quesada came after Mitchell lost in the consolation semifinals to Renae Cook of Forest Grove. Cook would go on to place third and Medina fourth.
At 155 pounds, Valeria Solorio Campos (30-17) won one of three matches, a 14-2 major decision over Kassandra Barber of South Albany, in the first round of consolation. The win was sandwiched between a loss by fall to Emily Fitzgerald of Eagle Point and a loss by fall to Danica Kirkwood of Hillsboro. Fitzgerald would eventually place fifth.
Xiomara Gordian Gomez (37-15) lost both her matches at 145 pounds. She lost by fall to North Salem’s Mariah Sullenger-Adams and by fall to the eventual third-place finisher, Jasmin Lopez Hernandez of McKay.
