HOOD RIVER — Senior Logan King continues to edge closer to the top of Hood River Valley’s all-time best list for a 5,000-meter cross country course with his finish at the huge Sept. 28 Nike Portland XC meet at Blue Lake Park.
King placed 41st overall (among 177 finishing runners) in the Danner division in 15 minutes, 47 seconds. That clocking is No. 3 all-time on HRV’s cross country list for 5,000 meters behind Leo Castillo (15:40) and Elliot Hawley (15:45).
There were 19 races and more than 3,200 finishers in the seven-hour meet.
Hood River was 21st out of 23 teams in the most competitive race (Danner Championships) at the meet, which attracted some 100 teams from numerous states. Also figuring in the team score for the Eagles were Kai Wagner (103rd, 16:32); Victor Coffman (136th, 17”03); Davis Kerr (155th, 17:29); and Andres Moretti (165th, 17:52). Copeland Louis (166th, 17:53) and Colin Gerald (172nd, 18:20) also competed on varsity for HRV. Five Eagle runners ran personal bests on the fast Blue Lake Park course.
HRV junior Syl Perrin competed as an individual in the Danner girls race, finishing 49th in 19:14 — out of 119 finishing runners. Her varsity teammates competed in the Division 4 varsity race, finishing third. Junior Noelle Stasak led the Eagles in 23rd place (22:27). Charlotte Fuller, Noah Crain and Isabella Perez were 26th, 27th and 30th for HRV, which also had Georginia Williams finish 44th, Piper Johnson 46th, and Katie Godkin 66th.
The Hood River girls scored 130 team points and finished behind Stayton (67) and Columbia of White Salmon (78). Crain, Johnson and Williams had personal-best times.
Hood River also competed in a five-team Northwest Oregon Conference meet on Sept. 25 at Molalla River State Park near Canby. The Eagle boys won the race with 25 points, running in a pack that included six of seven finishers in the third through ninth places. King, Wagner, Moretti, Louis and Coffman were third through seventh in a 12-second pack; Brayden Strong was in ninth 13 seconds behind that group.
The Eagle girls won with 27 points, with nine finishers in the top 13 places. Perrin led the way in second place behind Macallan Cutsforth of Canby.
