HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s track and field team had their opening meet at home April 4, a month into the 2025 season.
The Eagles were scheduled to compete March 19 at Rex Putnam in Milwaukie, but transportation issues prevented HRV from attending. The wait was worth it, especially weather-wise, as HRV was able to shake off the winter cobwebs on a sunny day at Henderson Community Stadium against Class 5A Northwest Conference foe Canby and 1A Horizon Christian School.
First-year Coach Kyle Turner’s squad had some good early season times and marks. Hood River won the dual meet against Canby — 64-57 boys, and 77-45 girls. Neither school fielded their complete team, as they had athletes competing April 4-5 at the Oregon Relays in Eugene (see related story online at columbiagorgenews.com).

Pacing the HRV girls were freshman sprinter Georgiana Williams, distance runner Syl Perrin, and freshman thrower-jumper Lilah Tactay. Williams won the 100 meters (13.32 seconds) and 200 meters (27.87). Perrin led teammate Katie Godkin in a 1-2 800 sweep and was second to teammate Savina Davis in the 1500. Tactay won the discus (90 feet, 2 inches) and high jump (4-9).
Hood River had four other girls’ winners: Hailey Harjo won the shot, Sylvaine Farr won the pole vault (9-6), Ella Balch won the long jump (14-3.5), and Alex Bronson won the triple jump.
The Eagle girls also swept the relays. The short relay (4x100) team of sophomore Keira Brennan and freshmen Williams, Camila Luna, and Tactay ran 52.74. The 4x400 team of Sadie Baumann, Perrin, Uma Carosella, and Davis won in 4:30.3.
Hood River’s boys team was led by Sam Knoll and Omar Sedano. Knoll won both the 800 and 1500 (PR 4:29.45). Sedano won the shot put in 42-6.5 and discus in 119-11, both personal bests.
Other wins for the Eagle boys came from Francisco Solberg, who cleared 12 feet in the pole vault; Oliver Candela, at 5-6 in the high jump; Jack Miller (133-9 javelin); and sprinter Matt Trickey, who won the 100 in a PR 11.65.
Hood River competes April 9 in a league meet at Putnam, and April 12 at the Wilsonville Invitational.
