HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s girls swim team opened the Northwest Oregon Conference season with a dual meet win at La Salle Prep last week.
“The girls team had a strong showing throughout all events by both returning swimmers and new adds to the team this year,” Coach Shelly Rawding said of the Eagles’ 114-42 win. The Eagle girls went 1-2-3 in four individual races and won all three relays. The individual sweeps came in the 200 individual medley (Kylin Elliott, Isabel Ulland, Leah Sandoval); 50 freestyle (Sophia Cross, Sophia Helleberg, Ava Giordano); 100 free (Helleberg, Giordano, Andrea Romero); and 100 breaststroke (Elliott, Isabel Ulland, Skyla Hollowell). Cross and Nyxey Heredia went 1-2 in the 200 free; and Delaney Hackett and Hollowell went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly.
“Nyxey also was top scorer in the 500 free, Delaney won the 100 backstroke, and the girls took first in all three relays,” Rawding said. Heredia won the 500 in six minutes, 23 seconds.
La Salle won the boys meet, 88-59, as HRV won two individual events and one of the three relays.
Individual wins for the boys came from Charlie Marcotte in the 100 back (he was second in the 100 fly; and Felipe Mendez in the 200 IM (he was second in the 500 free). Hood River won the boys 200 free relay.
Francisco Solberg was second in the 100 free and third in the 200 IM. Liam McGeeney was second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free. Moshe Tsypin was second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 free, and Judah Tsypin was fourth in the 100 breaststroke. The Eagles host Wilsonville Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Hood River Aquatic Center.
