HOOD RIVER — OSU Hood River Extension Central Gorge Master Gardeners welcome home gardeners of all abilities to attend the upcoming Garden Gathering series of educational presentations. These free presentations will be held monthly through October 2024 and are designed to be interactive and aid in participants’ growth as gardeners.
The Garden Gathering series continues with Central Gorge Master Gardener volunteer Jen Harty’s pop up presentations that will be held during the Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale, Saturday, May 11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CGMGA greenhouse on the OSU Extension Service grounds, 2990 Experiment Station Drive, Hood River.
Three different topics will be covered at the May Garden Gathering of 10 minute pop up workshops.
9:30 a.m. — Tomatoes! How to select the right varieties for your garden and how to give your plants a great start.
10:30 a.m. — How to plant and care for Lavender. Watering needs and pruning will be explained.
11:30 a.m. — Selecting vegetable plants that grow well in containers and the right soil mix for successful growth and bountiful harvest.
Harty has decades of science based gardening education and says, “Knowing a few bits of essential information about your plant’s needs can make growing a garden full of thriving plants a reality.” These pop-up workshops are designed to help you provide what your plants need to thrive.
While you’re at the Garden Gathering pop up workshops, be sure to purchase the plants you’ll need to get your gardening projects started. Inventory is limited to plants on hand on the day of the sale, so come early for the best selection.
The Growing Gardeners Kids’ Corner will also be happening at the Master Gardener Plant Sale. Kids and the adults in their lives are invited to visit the Growing Gardeners Kids’ Corner. This free event is for kids of all ages and will include fun activities like a scavenger hunt, art project, and rock decorating. All kids who participate will receive a seed starting kit so they can start their own plant at home.
All are welcome to attend the Garden Gathering to learn about planting and caring for tomatoes, lavender, and vegetables in containers. No registration is needed for this free presentation. Upcoming topics for Garden Gathering presentations are Tool Care, Weed Management, WaterWise Gardening, and Planting Fall Crops. Dates, times and locations will be announced prior to each presentation.
