Contributed photoTHE DALLES — North Central Public Health District (NCPHD) won a safety award from CIS (Citycounty Insurance Services), the entity that provides insurance and risk management services to most cities and counties in Oregon.
The CIS Excellence in Best Practices Award was presented at the Association of Oregon Counties annual conference in mid-November. The award acknowledges agencies or counties that are “doing the right things, right now,” said CIS Executive Director Patrick Priest.
NCPHD was lauded for making significant improvements to its safety program and was noted for the number of recommendations it has implemented, the number of staff completing training courses, and a reduction in claims.
Shellie Campbell, director of NCPHD, said, “We’re very honored to receive this award. Over the past few years, especially during COVID, the whole NCPHD team worked together to keep our staff and community safe.”
At the award ceremony, Priest said, “As with all organizations in the health sector, NCPHD has had to navigate many changes in the last few years to keep their employees and clients safe during the pandemic. In addition to changing medical advisories and personal protective equipment recommendations, they found a way to add vaccination clinics to the long list of services they provide their communities.”
He continued, “Through this time, they did not lose focus on general safety and risk management, making improvements to policies and programs. They’re also using their CIS Risk Management Plan as a tool for their Leadership Team to plan for safer programs.”
Priest lauded NCPHD for having an active safety committee and utilizing many CIS resources for safety and wellness improvements for staff.
