Lyle gets one more chance at victory when it travels to Mattawa Friday to take on Columbia-Hunters in a non-league 8-man football encounter at Wahluke High School, in Mattawa.
The Cougars (0-8) are coming off a 41-20 loss to the State School for the Deaf last Thursday in Vancouver.
Lyle gained 264 yards in offense, in 44 plays. Sophomores Devan Essex and Callan Johnson led the Cougars' running game (37-214), picking up 54 and 53 yards respectively.
Essex scored Lyle's last touchdown of the game on a 14-yard run.
Johnson got into the end zone on the receiving end of a pass play that covered 30 yards, for Lyle's second TD.
Junior quarterback Justin Carlson finished the game 2-of-7 passing, for 50 yards, with two interceptions. Senior Jesse Spalding had a catch for 20 yards.
The Cougars' first score of the afternoon came on senior Tyler Essex's 50-yard return of a fumble.
Essex spearheaded Lyle's defense, collecting five tackles, four assists and a sack to go with his fumble recovery.
Spalding added four tackles and six assists, while Carlson and junior James Stanovich made four tackles and five assists each. Stanovich also had two sacks.
Junior Mike Dennis recovered two fumbles, and Johnson contributed three tackles, 19 assists, a sack and a fumble recovery to the defensive effort.
At La Center 31, Ridgefield 7 --
The Wildcats clinched the Trico Division's top playoff spot and the right to oppose defending state champion Elma on Friday for the district's No.-1 seed in the state 2A tournament.
La Center outgained Ridgefield 386-148 en route to becoming division co-champions with Woodland (5-1, 7-1).
But LC got the Trico's automatic state playoff berth because it beat Woodland during the regular season.
The Wildcats got an early jump on the Spudders, scoring touchdowns on 32- and 65-yard pass plays for a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
La Center (5-1, 6-2) sealed the win when defensive lineman David Cantwell picked off a pass and rumbled 27 yards for the game's final score.
Ridgefield (2-4, 4-4) got 73 yards rushing out of tailback Jonny Peru but played the game without four starters, who were suspended for disciplinary reasons.
SWW 2A League playoffs --
Besides La Center at Elma, two more crossover games with playoff implications will be played Friday night.
Trico No. 2 Woodland will entertain Evergreen No. 3 Montesano, while Trico No. 3 Castle Rock will travel to Evergreen No. 2 Rochester.
Winners of these two contests will qualify for the state 2A playoffs, which get underway Nov. 15-16.
