The couple lived in Lyle, Goldendale and Stevenson. She made lasting friends in all of these communities, including friends in Quartsite, Ariz, where the couple spent their winters after they retired.

Mrs. Ensley loved her family and friends, doing things with all of them, be it a card playing session at her home, teaching family members how to play the different card games she knew, or hosting a pinochle party with friends. The annual Ensley campout at Oklahoma Campground was also high on her enjoyment list and making her chicken and dumplings and mounds of chocolate chip cookies for all was special. She always looked forward to the many that would come by, visit, and have potluck with her family at this get-together.

She enjoyed trips to the ocean and looked forward to her time in Arizona during the winter months. A trip to the Fiji Islands with her family, in 2004, was memorable. She loved to dance and every dance she could attend she did, between Goldendale and White Salmon and all places in between.

She was a member of the Lyle United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 116, Sundowner's Good Sam Club, and the Lyle Grange.

She is survived by her sons Robert, Washougal, and Ron, Vancouver; daughters Beverly Gregory, Vancouver, and Sandra Brink, Quincy; niece Jeanie Bradford, Everett; half-sister Jeanne Morgan, Everett, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Oct. 25, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Lyle United Methodist Church.

CANDY SCHULTZ

Candy Lynn Schultz, loving wife, daughter, sister and best friend, died on Oct. 4, 2006, in White Salmon, Washington at the age of 54. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on Aug. 2, 1952, to Marjorie (Geering) and George Rogers.

Mrs. Schultz was an artist who worked in many mediums such as, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, graphite and fabric. She designed and crafted many banners, including the Centennial Banner, for her church, Trout Lake Presbyterian. A lover of nature and inspired by the incredible beauty of the area, she created stunning landscape pieces.

Her creativity carried on in her work at Collage of the Gorge where she worked as a picture framer. Mrs. Schultz was interested in Native American crafts. She was a quiet, modest, "neat as a pin" woman.

Mrs. Schultz will be greatly missed by her husband John W. Schultz, Trout Lake, whom she married on Oct. 25, 1997. She is also survived by her parents, Marjorie and George Rogers, Vine Grove, Ky.; sister Pamela Kerr, Radcliff, Ky.; son John W. Schultz, Tacoma; and grandson Justin Schultz, Salt Lake City, Utah.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Trout Lake Presbyterian Church. Interment was at the Trout Lake Cemetery after a private family ceremony.

HELEN EAGER

Helen Rebecca "Becky" Eager died on Oct. 7, 2006, at the age of 94. She was born on March 7, 1912, in Glenwood to Ove and May deConinck-Smith.

Throughout her life, her home was always open to anyone who needed a helping hand or a kind word and moral support. She was "mother" and advisor to many young people as they were growing up. As several kids through the years said, "I would have starved if it hadn't been for Becky and the pot of beans and pan of corn bread that was always available."

Mrs. Eager was a licensed beautician and practiced under the name of Helene deConinck. She was the hostess at the Holland Restaurant for eight years in the 1950s and was a waitress, which by the way, was the job she loved the best. She owned her own direct marketing business with her husband and son and called it "Eager Beaver Sales."

She was "Woman of the Year" in the American Business Women's Association. She taught Sunday School and during World War II taught first aid classes.

She was a poet, artist, writer, presser of flowers, and maker of ceramics.

She had so many, many friends and loved ones who will miss her greatly.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years Russell H. Eager, son Ron Swanson, grandsons Jim and Vincent Swanson, sister Carol Kuhnhausen, brother Buckley Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

There was no service, at her request.

GLENN CAMPBELL

Glenn Edwards Campbell, 81, died in Hood River, Ore., on Oct. 13, 2006. He was born in Stevensville, Mont., on July 13, 1925, the son of Eugene and Vivian (Farras) Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was raised in the Chelan area. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Nov. 26, 1943, and was a member of Carlsons Raiders. While serving in World War II, he witnessed the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. He was also wounded on Iwo Jima and received several service medals including the Purple Heart. Mr. Campbell was honorably discharged from his military service on Oct. 9, 1945.

Mr. Campbell returned to Washington and met Fay Josephine Marlett. The two married on Feb. 7, 1947, and continued to make their home in the Chelan area, where he worked for fruit packing companies as a box maker. So proficient at his job was he that he earned recognition in the Guiness Book of World Record in 1953 as the world's fastest box maker.

The Campbell family moved to the Bingen/White Salmon area in 1960 and resided in Underwood since 1963. Mr. Campbell worked at Underwood Fruit until his retirement. He loved to fish and enjoyed anything that was outdoors. He also liked to invent things.

Surviving Mr. Campbell are his children, Steven E. Campbell, White Salmon, Cathy L. Asher and David B. Campbell, both of Vancouver, Wendy G. Schmid, Trout Lake, Roger O. Campbell, Oregon City, Laurie E. Carr, Hood River, Elizabeth A. Cummings, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Fay, who died in 1990.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with a reception to follow.

TED HARDING

Theodore Clinton Harding was born on Nov. 20, 1912, on a farm in Juanita, N.D. to George Albert and Alma Mae (Posey) Harding. He died at his home in White Salmon on Oct. 15, 2006, at the age of 93.

On Dec. 27, 1933, he married Sophie Clarice Rude in New Rockford, N.D. They farmed until 1952 but when their daughter, Carol, moved to Oregon. Mr. Harding sold his beloved team of horses and the family came out west to live in Silverton, Ore. They settled in Bingen in 1954. Mr. Harding worked as a mill worker for SDS Lumber Company and retired in 1975.

Years ago, Mr. Harding loved bowling. Later, he enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking. He liked to macrame lawn chairs and was a staunch Atlanta Braves fan. He and his wife traveled extensively and were snowbirds, spending their winters in Arizona. He loved horses, and his daughters and his grandchildren were his life. Once, when someone gave him a hard time about having all girls, Mr. Harding replied, "If you have five daughters, the sons will come."

Mr. Harding will be missed by his wife, Sophie, White Salmon; daughters Carol Hoyt, West Linn, Ore., Ardys Hoyt, Luella Estey, Vonnie Panko and Dianne Blades, all of White Salmon; brother Joe Harding of Minnesota; sisters Harriet Randklev, Portland, Ore., Gladys House, Beaverton, Ore., and Pearl Rude, Devils Lake, N.D.; 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and seven great, great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Cyrus and Gerald; and sisters Violet, Rosie, Helen, Delta and Emma.

A celebration of Mr. Harding's life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church Bingen.

Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Gorge or to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bingen.
