Library sponsors book talk groups

Discussion group participants may now pick up their copy of the first book of each series at the library's front desk. Booklists with discussion dates and titles are also available at the library.

The evening book discussion series will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The September title will be Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson, the inspiring account of one man's mission to promote peace one school at a time.

Future evening discussion group titles and dates are as follows: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote on Oct. 23; The Bridal Wreath by Sigrid Undset on Nov. 20; and The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell on Dec. 18.

The evening group will continue monthly through May, 2008. Titles for January through May will be announced in December.

"Northwest Regional Writers" will be the theme for the fall Saturday afternoon book discussion series, and will feature books by authors from the region.

The first discussion, to be held on Sept. 22, will feature Hole in the Sky: a Memoir by William Kittredge.

Kittredge, born in Portland, Ore., in 1932, and formerly a rancher in Adel, Ore., is currently a professor of English at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Future titles and discussion dates in the afternoon series will be: Where Bigfoot Walks by Robert Michael Pyle on Oct. 13; The Language of Baklava by Diana Abu-Jaber on Nov. 3; and The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig on Dec. 1.
