The Dalles The Dalles Little League is breaking ground on a new 2013 season, so the organization is sending an alert out to all parents and volunteers for Kramer Field cleanup starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16.
The entire facility located on 945 Walnut Street in The Dalles is in need of a facelift in time for baseball.
Large numbers are needed to attend this event and all parties should be sure to bring shovels, brooms, rakes, hoes, and any other tools appropriate for clean up and maintenance of the fields.
“Volunteering is what makes Little League successful,” said TDLL President Alan Anderson. “It also allows Little League to keep costs lower for the children to play sports in our community. Without volunteer participation, Little League and the children’s season will struggle.”
As an extra incentive, TDLL will be offering lunch for all participants helping out at clean up.
There will also be several raffles for persons who are signed in by 9:30 a.m., but you have to be present for the duration in order to win prizes.
Throughout this busy spring season, there are other opportunities available for volunteers, in tasks ranging from concession work, umpire duties and bookkeepers.
Anyone who is interested in any/all of these positions, but did not get a chance to mark the information on their volunteer application, e-mail the little league offices at tdlittleleague@gmail.com.
Parents can plan to spend a few hours throughout the season working in the concessions stand, keeping books for their team and umpiring several games.
“For aspiring managers/coaches at the Rookie, Tee Ball and Minors Levels, umpiring is an exceptional opportunity to learn the rules of the game and support the community,” Anderson added.
Bookkeeping and umpire clinics are being organized, and TDLL will soon send out information on those upcoming dates and times for training.
