TD baseball team is aiming high in 2019

The Dalles junior varsity and varsity baseball players and coaches have been inside Wahtonka Gymnasium since Feb. 25 due to snow, but have been able to get a few repetitions in ahead of the spring season. Last season, the Riverhawks finished with a 6-19 record, 3-9 in league, and chalked up a second consecutive postseason berth. Now in the Intermountain Conference, the competition figures to be tougher, as perennial league champion Hood River Valley, along with Pendleton, Ridgeview, Redmond and Crook County are vying for three playoff spots.

At the start of last season, The Dalles Riverhawks had a roster of six sophomores, a freshman, a junior and five seniors, who combined to clinch a state play-in spot for the second consecutive year.

Head coach Steve Sugg did not emphasize winning or losing, instead focusing on growth and progression with his young and inexperienced group.
