The Dalles Babe Ruth League will be holding signups for 12-to-15-year old players at the Middle School Commons from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Cost is $90 per player, and any first-time Babe Ruth players must provide a copy of their birth certificate.

10U Crush to hold tryouts
The Cherry City Crush 10U softball organization is looking for softball players who want to play competitive softball.
If you are interested in attending this tryout session, players need to bring their glove, bat and helmet to Wahtonka High School Gym at 5 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 13.
In addition, the 12U team has opened up registration for more players for play this summer.
Teams travel to Portland for four or five tournaments between April and June.

Valentine’s Day Run set The ninth annual Valentine’s Day Trail 3k, 5k and 10k run/walk is scheduled to run at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Lewis and Clark Park in The Dalles.
Cost is $25 by the pre-registration date, and $10 for adults on the day of the event, with no shirt.
Awards are offered for the top-3 age division winners, in all runs.

Little League starts signups
The Dalles Little League has opened its first signup date from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at The Dalles Middle School in the Commons.
There will be a second signup day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 6 at TDMS.
Registration is also available online, so parents can visit www.eteamz.com/tdll.
The website has all information regarding what paperwork is needed to complete the signup.
Mandatory player assessments will begin at 1 p.m. and run until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Majors (11-12 year olds) go from 1-2:30 p.m. Minors (9-10) run at 2:30 until 4 p.m. Rookies (7-9 with at least one year of coach pitch played) start at 4 p.m. and go for an hour.
There is another assessment session planned at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Wahtonka High School gym.
Majors go from 1-2 p.m. and both the Minors and Rookies run from 2-3 p.m.
Players are encouraged to wear non-marking gym shoes, no cleats, and are responsible to bring a bat, glove and helmet.

Free throw event is on tap
The Dalles Knights of Columbus, Council 1598, will be hosting their annual free throw competition on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 1:30 p.m at the St. Mary’s Gym in The Dalles.
The gymnasium will be open at 1 p.m. for late signups and for competing athletes to warm up for the competition.
There is no cost to compete.
Competition is open to all girls and boys, ages 9 through 14.

Heart Truth Run set for Feb. 6 The Heart Truth 3k, 5k and 10k run is on tap for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Kiwanis Pocket Park on Klindt Drive in The Dalles.
Entry fees open at $30 for each adult individual with a sweatshirt, $15 with a T-shirt and $10 without, before the pre-registration date of Monday, Feb. 1.
On the day of, costs are $35 for an adult with a sweatshirt, $20 with a shirt, if available, and $15 with no shirt.
Students can enter the race for $5.
There will be prize drawings throughout the day.
This is a fundraiser for the Planetree Health and Resource Center.
All proceeds benefit the Mid-Coulumbia Health Foundation Cardiac Rehabilitation Assistance Fund.

Umpires needed for spring season
Umpires are needed for the upcoming spring baseball and softball high school season.
The first informational meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 16 at The Dalles Middle School.
Prospective officials will work all across the gorge, three or four times a week, if needed.
Training sessions are also available to new umpires.
