The Sherman Huskies moved to within a game of first-place Dufur after getting a double-double from Katie Poirier, as a 17-6 third-quarter run helped the squad pull off a 49-34 win Tuesday in Big Sky Conference action in Arlington.
In this matchup, the Lady Honkers would not go away in the opening 16 minutes of play, down 23-20 at the half.
Sherman coach Steve Kaseberg huddled his group in the locker room for some words of inspiration and they responded with the momentum-changing 17-6 rally to pad the lead to 40-26 entering the final frame.
“We were very flat in the first half and had a little gut check at halftime,” coach Kaseberg said. “We then played our kind of ball in the third. Poirier’s teammates did a great job of getting her the ball in the right spots. Now we move on to our next game on Friday.”
Poirier led the Husky charge with 20 points and 10 boards and Janet Guzman tallied 10 points for the double-digit leaders.
Brittney Orendorff added eight points and point guard Andie Harrison kept pace with seven points on the scoresheet.
For Arlington, Sadie Weatherford scored 11 points and Rileigh McClure notched eight points.
Sherman (10-7 overall, 4-2 league) is in Dufur Friday, and then heads out to Helix for a Big Sky matchup versus Griswold.
