MORO – Since losing on a buzzer-beating jumper on Dec. 27 at Prairie City, the No. 5-ranked Sherman Huskies have bounced back with two straight lopsided victories over the weekend versus South Wasco County and Dufur in Big Sky Conference boys hoops action.
Saturday in Moro, Sherman’s senior point guard Luke Martin dropped a game-high 25 points, Owen Christiansen had 10, Keenan Coles and Caleb Fritts added nine points each, and Wade Fields tallied four points in a 62-43 home victory versus Dufur.
The Huskies (9-2 overall, 4-0 league), who have won six of their last seven games, used a 19-6 first-quarter run and built on a 33-21 halftime cushion with a 16-9 third-quarter spurt.
All told, Sherman sank 26 field goals, one 3-pointer, and converted 9 of 14 free throws, while Dufur (6-5, 1-2) made 16 baskets, one 3-pointer, and shot 10 of 15 from the line.
Ranger post Daniel Radcliffe poured in 14 points, Cooper Bales ended up with seven, the duo of Cole Kortge and Tabor McLaughlin added six apiece, and Tanner Masterson checked in with five points.
Friday’s league tilt pitted Sherman against South Wasco County in Maupin, with the Huskies using a 58-26 spurt through three quarters of a 66-41 win.
Martin totaled 24 points, Christiansen chipped in 16 and Coles ended up with 11 points to lead the Huskies, who had 29 field goals, two 3-pointers, and made 5 of 10 free throw shots.
For the Redsides, Garrett Olson reeled off 22 points, Oscar Thomas notched 13, and the guard tandem of Ben Birman and Tanner Davis each scored three points.
SWC hit 13 field goals, five 3-pointers, and went 10 of 14 from the line.
After Tuesday’s game at Dufur, the Redsides host Echo at 6 p.m. Friday. Sherman is at Arlington at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and then hosts Mitchell with a start time slated for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
