The Dalles Basketball Roundup: Girls win first two basketball games

On Dec. 13, The Dalles hosts the 2023-24 Class 3A state champion Corbett Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. at Kurtz Gym.

Boys lose opener to St. Helens

The Dalles High Riverhawks opened their boys basketball season on the road with a Dec. 6 non-league contest versus the St. Helens High Lions (1-1) and they lost, 68-59.

The Riverhawks got off to a slow start with six points in the first quarter. They bounced back and scored 25 in the second to take the lead at halftime. The Riverhawks had momentum in their favor with a third quarter lead and they led in the fourth, as well. The Lions took control of the game in the fourth to pull out the win.

Junior Derek Goulart led the Riverhawks in scoring with 18 points, followed by Calder Morrison (17 points) and Oliver Stevens (17 points, five rebounds, four assists).
