THE GORGE — The top two 1A Gorge girls basketball teams — Trout Lake and South Wasco — each won their first two non-league games last week.
The Redsides won their Dec. 4 season opener on the road 53-38 over Dayville/Monument and Dec. 6 won 53-31 at home vs. Irrigon. Trout Lake won 59-24 over Mohawk and 47-27 over Camas Valley. Trout Lake senior Violette Anderson had a triple double with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals against Mohawk and 27 points against Camas Valley.
The Sherman High Huskies won two-out-of-three non-league games, losing its opener Dec. 5 64-27 to Union. The Huskies then competed in a tournament Dec. 6-7 at Cove High School and beat Prairie City 50-47, and Elkton, 44-10.
The Horizon Christian High Hawks lost their Dec. 4 season opener 50-25 at C.S. Lewis Academy (3-0) in Newberg.
Redside boys win twice
The South Wasco County High Redsides won their first two non-league boys basketball games last week to highlight Class 1A Big Sky play.
The Redsides won Dec. 4, 69-23, at Dayville/Monument followed by a 65-58 Dec. 6 home win over Irrigon. Redsides junior Jason Hull scored 30 points in the opener and teammate Storm McCoy added 12 points. Hull scored 37 (seven three-pointers) against Irrigon and McCoy had 10.
The Sherman High Huskies won two-out-of-three non-league contests last week. The Huskies won their opener 57-53 at Union on Dec. 5 and split games at the Dec. 6-7 Cove tourney. The Huskies lost 63-61 to Enterprise (4-0) on Dec. 6, followed by a 58-38 win over Elkton on Dec. 7.
In other Big Sky games, the Horizon Christian High Hawks lost their Dec. 7 opener, 37-34, at North Clackamas. The Trout Lake High Mustangs 62-58 at Mohawk and 50-38 to Central Christian (also at Mohawk). Klickitat/Glenwood won its season opener 52-48 over the Stevenson junior varsity and lost 50-47 to Thorp High on Dec. 7. The Lyle/Wishram High Cougars split their first two non-league season opening games last week, losing 68-65 to C. S. Lewis and beating Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler, 63-49.
