With 150 of the top short and long-distance runners on full display, the 2015 Cherry Festival Run/Walk brought out the best marks in the 3k, 5k and 10k events at Dry Hollow School in The Dalles.
“It was a good turnout, but early rain obviously kept some people away, especially some of our pre-registered people,” said event coordinator Bob Thouvenel. “A fun time was had by all.”
The 5k and 10k runs provided the closest finishes on the day, with former The Dalles Wahtonka High athlete Ben Iremonger taking top honors in the 5k race with a final time of 20 minutes and 1.5 seconds, besting Jax Cooper (22:31.4) by nearly 2.5 minutes.
Celestine Negrete picked up third place in 23:23.4, Oscar Powell was fourth with his 25:14.0 and Betty Negrete had a mark of 25:25.1 for the top-5.

In the 10k classification, Gary Daubenspeck needed every ounce of energy he could provide to grab first place, as he crossed the line in 37:43.1 to edge past Phil Evans, who turned in a 35:50.7 for second place.
Jeff Traphold (41:47.3) was good for third place in the standings, Gary Johnson (42:07.1) added fourth place and James De Rosso came in fifth place after his 42:25.7.
Jason Whitely (43:12.7), Greg Gustafson (43:48.7), Dakota Len (43:57.5), Tim Tolbert (44:18.2), Asalia Valdez (44:36.0) and Kelly Morris (46:14.1) were part of a group of 33 that finished the 10k run in less than an hour.
Luis Martinez claimed first place in the 3k race with a time of 11:49.7 and right behind was Zack Ziegenhagen, who had a second-place mark of 14:14.5.
Vincent Ziegenhagen (15:00.0), Rebekah Carson (15:04.8) and Egan Ziegenhagen (16:57.7) capped the harriers taking top-5 status.
