Jesch picks up Championship

Bob Ball had a 158 in the Flight ‘A’ Gross Division to chalk up third place in a scorecard playoff over fourth-place finisher, Craig Pearce (159).

On the Flight ‘A’ Net side, Jeff Ford led the way with his 143, two strokes better than TD’s Gary Briggs, who had a 145.

Bob Twiss placed third after his 149.

Ron Krol, of The Dalles, scored top honors in the Flight ‘B’ Gross with his tally of 163, Bill Caddy, also of TD, had a 165 and Jason Alford added a 166 for third place.

Ron Holder won the Flight ‘B’ Net event by one stroke over The Dalles native Chris Cady (147) and two over Charlie Clark (148).

TD’s Pete Kelly cashed in $250 for his 174 to lead the Flight ‘C’ Gross Class, inching ahead of JT Bertrand (175) and TD’s Charlie Ford (178).

John Haughney ended up taking top honors in the Flight ‘C’ Net run with his 148, three shots better than Gary Bronkey (151). The Dalles’ Bob Smith grabbed third place at 152.

TD’s Rich Miller took home the gold in the Flight ‘D’ Gross Division after carding a 175. Jerry Christiansen, of The Dalles, had a 180 for second place, and George Adams was third in the standings with a 182.

Bill Gillette (142), also of TD, placed first in the Flight ‘D’ Net class, cruising past TD’s Rich Hess and Tim Urness, who ended up in a second-place tie with 146 on the scorecards.

Ball, Ford and Twiss were the top-3 players in Flight ‘A’ of the Pay Ball event on Monday.

In the Flight ‘B’ of the Pay Balls, Russ Bong, Cady, Manny Patel, Holder and Kevin Kitchen had the best scores of the field.

Kelly, Terry Way, Jeff Ford and Gerald Blevins were the best of the Flight ‘C’ Pay Ball standings.

There was a five-person group of Hess, Gillette, Miller, Urness, and Adams led the Flight ‘D’ Pay Ball event.

In Flight ‘A’ of the Honey Pot game played Monday, Jeff Ford secured first gross honors with a 74, Ball (77) was in second place and Ron Lavigne (79) grabbed third gross.

Bryan and Briggs ended up tied for first place in the Honey Pot Net class after scoring 71s, and Jesch (72) placed third.

In Flight ‘B’ of the Honey Pot, Alford and Krol were tied for first gross with 80s on the scorecards, and Holder (82) was third.

Cady (71), Kitchen (73) and Link (74) capped the top of the Flight ‘B’ Net participants.

Ray Shepherd was the top Flight ‘C’ Gross winner after shooting an 84. Behind him were Kelly (85) and Terry Way (88).

Roger Fleck won the Flight ‘C’ Net race with his 71, defeating Haughney (72) and Ford (75).

Gillette took first place in the Flight ‘D’ Honey Pot with an 89, and duo of Christiansen and Miller were tied for second place with their 90s.

Also in the ‘D’ Flight, Hess was first in the Net class with a 69, Urness added a 71 for second place and Ed Wicks, who had a 72, tallied third place.

On the first day of the tournament, Tim Farley, from Seattle, had a hole-in-one on the 14th hole, a 225-yard, par-3 hole.

The Dalles Country Club offers golfers a private 9-hole course. The pro shop has cart rentals and the clubhouse features a full bar and serves lunch and dinner for members.

Membership dues are $165 per month. The course is open Tuesday-through-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
