For 77 minutes, The Dalles and Ridgeview swung it out for a 1-1 draw in girls soccer Tuesday.
In the 78th minute, the Ravens were awarded an own goal that proved to be the difference in a 2-1 contest played at Ridgeview High in Redmond.
Coming off a corner kick, Ridgeview kicked the ball and TD goalkeeper Jennifer Bonham made the save, but a teammate bumped her hard enough over the line that the linesman called a goal for Ridgeview.
Two minutes later, the final whistle blew with the Ravens coming out on top.
“It was one of those games that in soccer, one or two funky plays might end up being the result,” said TD head coach Colby Tonn. “I don’t think that it was a fair result, but I am happy with the effort. I thought that they came on in the second half and that is all you can ask for.”
In the 31st minute, Ridgeview’s Saylor Goodwin gave her team a 1-0 lead on a shot that beat Bonham by the near post.
Down by a goal in the second half, The Dalles tied things up after Shaynie Watson was fouled inside the penalty area.
On the ensuing penalty kick, Hannah Walasavage blasted her shot past the Raven keeper into the goal to even the count at 1-1.
Over the next 27 minutes, both teams traded chances, but could not gain the lead, until the own goal call.
The Hawks managed four shots on goal, while Bonham was credited with eight saves.
