Caden Smith went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Tony Papel added three hits and two RBIs, as the Pendleton Buckaroos score five runs in the third inning and tacked on four in the sixth in a 13-1 mercy-ruled win over The Dalles Tuesday at Quinton Street Ballpark.
The Bucks slammed out 12 hits in the game, using eight runs on seven hits and four walks off TD starter Colin Noonan to lead 8-0 through two and a half innings.
No. 14-ranked Pendleton (7-12 overall, 3-3 league) won two of three games over The Dalles spanning this past weekend and Tuesday into a second-place tie with the Hawks.
Smith, Pendleton’s starting pitcher, held the Riverhawks in check in his complete-game effort.
Of the 18 outs recorded, 10 came on flyouts.
He scattered three hits and struck out three with a walk and the lone run allowed came in the bottom of the third inning.
With two outs and Noonan in scoring position, Gordy Harris roped an RBI double to plate Noonan and move TD to a 9-1 deficit.
In the final 3 1/3 innings, the Riverhawks mustered just one hit and had a runner reach on a hit by pitch.
Smith retired the final six batters he faced on 11 pitches.
Harris, Payton Eaton and Kellen Mathisen totaled TD’s three hits and Eli Holeman went 0 for 2 with a walk, a stolen base.
The Dalles (9-10, 3-3) hosts No. 9 Hood River Valley (13-6, 5-1) at 5 p.m. Friday for a doubleheader.
The Eagles are currently riding a four-game winning streak and have won seven of its last eight overall.
