RUNNERS are all smiles before the start of this past weekend’s non-official Valentine’s Race Saturday in The Dalles. Even with the bad weather canceling the scheduled Jumpstart run, 25 locals were on hand for the love running and fun.
With large amounts of snow dropping in The Dalles over the weekend, the Jumpstart Valentine’s day run had to be canceled.
However, a determined group of 25 brave harriers were on hand for an unofficial running event Saturday at Lewis and Clark Festival Park in The Dalles. The 19-degree snowy weather provided many hurdles on this day, with slippery footing, constant flurries and a visibility level of a quarter mile. Three participants ran the 10k, on unplowed trail, while the balance of the group took to the 5k trail.
Although this was a non-official event with no official times, Charlie Remington had his top game on tap in his try at 10k with a time, somewhere between 36-42 minutes.
David Bandel, who stopped the watch in approximately 40-48 minutes, followed up Remington.
The other 20-plus runners, including J.R. Runyon and his wife Heather, and four students representing Colonel Wright Elementary School, participated in the 5k event.
The Valentine’s Day run may have been washed away, but race director Tom Conklin is looking forward to a high quality March.
Signups are open for the St. Patrick’s Day 3k, 5k and 10k run/walk scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Lewis and Clark Park.
Cost is $8 for pre-registration without a shirt and $25 with a shirt for all participants.
