Walk for a Cause

A HOMEMADE RV pulled by Lawrence Scible, who is better known by his spiritual name, Ras Ible, passed through The Dalles Monday headed toward Hood River. The canvas covering was painted with varied messages, some paying tribute to veterans and others advocating for the federal government and West Virginia, where Scible lives, to “lift the prohibition on medical marijuana.” He flew to Spokane, Wash., and built the RV, adding a flower pot and a few other decorations he found along the roadway, and began his walk to The Dalles in mid-April. He plans to head south to Los Angeles, Calif., after stopping in Portland and then travel to the East Coast, where he will take his message to the gates of the White House. “I want to raise awareness that Virginia leads the nation in overdoses from narcotics and we can save lives with medical marijuana,” he said. Scible tried filing a lawsuit over the issue in federal court, but the case was thrown out. “I am going to build 10 of these RVs in LA and I’m asking people to join me in this walk,” he said. “I will give $1,000 to the first person who makes it to D.C., regardless of what route they take.” He can be reached through his Facebook page under the name of Ras Ible.
