Truck driver panicked in hit and run

A trooper overheard the call and set up for the truck eastbound on Interstate 84. A Good Samaritan from Dallesport, who had witnessed the incident, stayed behind the truck and was on the line with 911 dispatchers until the traffic stop was made.

The driver was issued a criminal citation for failure to perform the duties of a driver in a crash with property damage.

The driver told police he stopped his truck in the 700 block of Snipes to make a phone call. As he started driving away, the top of his cab hit the powerlines and broke a pole and he panicked, according to the log.

The driver admitted he heard the lines hitting the truck and saw the flash when the lines broke and saw a power pole break in two, the log stated. He told police he was afraid and panicked.
