Crews respond to the Squally Point Fire along Interstate 84 west of The Dalles Tuesday afternoon. The fire was held to 19 acres.

The Squally Point Fire was held to 19 acres Tuesday afternoon, according to a press release from the Oregon Department of Forestry.
Reported just before 2 p.m., the fire was burning in grass and brush approximately four miles northwest of The Dalles, near the Columbia River Gorge Discovery Center.
The fire was human caused and is under investigation, but is not suspicious in nature.
The Discovery Center evacuated and closed as a precautionary measure. It reopened Wednesday morning.
Fire fighters staged and worked from the parking area of the center throughout the evening as they mopped-up the fire.
Interstate 84 closed one lane of westbound traffic Tuesday afternoon and evening to allow for firefighter safety during suppression activities.
Two FireBoss scooper air tankers, a helicopter, and an air attack platform from Washington Department of Natural Resources assisted in containment efforts.
Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue, Dallesport and Mosier fire departments, and the Oregon Department of Forestry were part of the initial attack.
The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation provided traffic control.
Firefighters continued to mop-up and monitor hot spots and flames in the interior of the fire, with a 20-person crew and overhead personnel.
Year-to-date, the Central Oregon District of the Department of Forestry has responded to 42 human-caused fires, six more than the 10-year average for this time period.
Dry fuel conditions throughout the region combined with continued hot and dry weather in the forecast have the potential for rapid fire growth.
