The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office is asking for public assistance to locate Cory Widner, 24, a person of interest in a shooting investigation.
Early Thursday morning, Oct. 22, a man in his mid-20s was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside a trailer in Celilo Village, about 12 miles east of The Dalles.
His identity is being withheld pending the notification of family members.
Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene after receiving a 9-1-1 call about 2:30 a.m. that a man with a “long gun” was inside the residence.
A single weapon was reportedly located on the premises.
A shooter has been identified, according to an Oct. 23 press release issued by the sheriff’s office.
The shooter has not been named because the investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff’s office said all parties involved in the incident have been cooperative.
Assistance in the investigation has been provided by officers from the Oregon State Police and The Dalles Police Department, and by the Wasco County District Attorney’s Office. The sheriff’s office asks that people remain patient and not speculate about yesterday’s events.
Detective Sgt. Scott Williams said that any help locating Widner will be appreciated. People with information are asked to call 541-506-2580.
