Wasco County District Attorney Eric Nisley was scrambling Monday to prepare cases for 14 people, 12 arrested on drug charges, between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon. Twelve of those arraigned in circuit court June 23 were accused of drug use or trafficking and taken into custody at one of three locations.
Kenji Hammon, 22, of Eugene and co-defendant Mary Morrissey, 22, of Massachussets were detained Sunday by private security officials at What the Festival off Dufur Valley Road.
According to court records, Hammon had 550 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms in his possession along with marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, hash oil and “other substances” that law enforcement officials could not identify.
He and Morrissey are accused of illegally possessing ecstasy, a synthetic drug similar to meth. More than $2,000 was seized from Hammon’s wallet as evidence of sale proceeds.
Also detained at the festival was Sadie Harmon, 27, and her husband Johnathan, 32, of Portland.
They were allegedly found to have ecstasy and she also reportedly had cocaine on her person.
“I appreciate the private security team at the festival for taking steps to make people safe,” said Nisley. “And the (Wasco County) Sheriff’s Office did an excellent job of taking over the investigation and providing security in the area.”
Also on the court docket for arraignment Monday were seven defendants who were arrested Friday morning, June 20, by members of the Mid-Columbia Narcotics Task Force.
Detectives from The Dalles Police Department and sheriff’s office raided two locations simultaneously following lengthy investigations into ongoing drug sales.
Taken into custody at 1630 East 14th Street were Tina Linville, 35; Alonzo Gutierrez, 20; Laraine Rogers, 46; and Jason James, 35.
Several children were taken into protective custody at 1627 Nevada Street by officials from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Arrested were Jeremy Otten, 43; Cassi Lamas-Juhnke, 30; and Maverick Mangold, 31.
Charges on the above listed people vary and include not only drug possession but warrants, probation violations and child neglect.
“The police were working really hard on this investigation and did some good work,” said Nisley.
The other two arraignments in court Monday involved domestic assault and an arson incident that was reported last week.
Awaiting arraignment after being arrested June 20 at the festival is Abigail Sherman, 20, of Eugene. She was taken into custody by security officials after narcotics were found in her vehicle.
