The Wasco County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is hosting its 6th Annual Blanket Drive Jan. 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the parking lot at 523 E. Third St., across from Sawyer’s Ace Hardware. All items collected from this drive will be donated to The Warming Place in The Dalles, and to Gilliam & Sherman County Emergency Management.
The Warming Place is in need of warm socks and other warming item such as coats and gloves. Donors can simply pull up to the curb to drop off new or gently used (and washed) blankets, socks and other warming items.

Just in time for the cold winter weather, cabins at Cottonwood Canyon State Park are now open for business. These four rustic cabins are the perfect way to experience the open wilderness while sleeping in comfort.

AAA projects more than 112.5 million Americans (33 percent of the population) will travel for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
This is the most on record and a 4.4 percent increase compared to last year. In Oregon, roughly 1.37 million will travel.
The vast majority of travelers—91 percent or 102.1 million people—will take a holiday road trip, an increase of 4.4 percent over last year. In Oregon, about 1.2 million will drive.
2018 will have the greatest number of holiday air travelers in 15 years, with 6.7 million Americans including about 84,000 Oregonians flying to their holiday destinations.
Gas prices are lower in all 50 states this week with many Oregon markets below $3 a gallon on average.
