A RUSTIC BENCH and bicycle rack made of farm implements and other parts by artist Alan Root are just part of beautification centering on the totem pole clearing in Mosier, which will central to much of the city’s centennial celebration this weekend.
Mosier has started to look decidedly more festive this week and in large part it is because people are getting ready to put on a great big party to celebrate the city’s 100th birthday this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14.
“It’s all been 100 percent volunteer,” said Mosier City Councilor Emily Reed. “All of the organizations in town have contributed in some form.”
Work on the big event has brought groups together that usually don’t have a reason to interact. The fruits of those labors are particularly visible in the totem pole clearing at the center of town where a host of new benches and planters are scattered about, as are bike racks designed and built from found pieces by a local resident. Also created in anticipation of the celebration is a nature walk leading off from the totem pole area. The entrance to the walk is marked with pavers adorned with fish
