Plane and helicopter rides, $1,750 worth of cash prizes in a golf ball drop and the chance to ride in a P-51 Mustang fighter-bomber are just a few things on the menu for the Dallesport Fire Department fly-in at the Columbia Gorge Regional Airport on Saturday, June 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will raise money for Klickitat County Fire District 6, an all-volunteer department in Dallesport, that needs to expand its fire station.
The station is currently too small to house all of its fire trucks. Four remain outside year-round causing firefighters to drain the water tender and quick attack vehicles during the winter, which leaves the public at risk.
Klickitat County Fire District 6 covers 40 square miles and averages 208 calls per year. The department also provides aid to several surrounding districts, including Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue in The Dalles.
Parking at the fly-in will be $5 per car. At $7, two breakfast options will be available—biscuits and sausage gravy and a drink or scrambled eggs, ham, biscuit or pancake and a drink. Barbequed beef and grilled ham and cheese sandwiches will be sold at lunch. Both options come with chips and a drink and are $8.
Various venders from around the area will be on
site and The Navy Rock Band will be performing. There will also be car, aircraft, fire truck and emergency services showcases. At $1 per ticket, an inflatable slide, bounce houses and spray tattoos will be available for kids. Big D’s Fun Karts will also be on hand. For $5, patrons can ride around a track for 4 minutes.
For a chance to win $1,000, $500 and $250, there will be a golf ball drop. Each ball costs $10.
Gorge Aviation Services will offer 30-minute plane rides for $99 and Leading Edge Aviation will provide helicopter rides for $40 per person.
There will be live and silent auctions, which will include a 20-minute ride in a P-51 Mustang—a fighter-bomber used during World War II.
The Dallesport Volunteer Firefighters Association is requesting monetary tax deductible sponsorships, which will get your name or business announced throughout the event.
They also need food, beverage and utensil donations for breakfast and lunch as well as items for the auctions.
